Spirit Generator Monk [Greater Rift] [Season 5] [Patch 2.4]

The spirit generator monk is a solo build for the monk that uses very quick, basic holy attacks to clear greater rifts. Due to the reliance on Unity, this build is only recommended for solo play.

You're looking for the 2 piece Raiment of a Thousand Storms set for the attack speed bonus (shoulders + something else), then the 6 piece bonus from Inna's Mantra (belt + four others, not the weapon). Basically, take your two best Raiment pieces and fill in with Inna's.

Life % is slightly better on your chest and belt because of the monk's Harmony passive if your gear has a resistance in the secondary rolls.

Because perfect rolls on your gear will be nearly impossible, fill in your weapons, gloves, bracers, and helm with vitality.

Note: Since this build runs Unity, your follower must be running Unity and the "Your follower cannot die" relic.

Kanai's Cube

SlotItem
Weapon Flying Dragon
Armor The Crudest Boots
Jewelry Ring of Royal Grandeur

Flying Dragon gives this build one of the strongest legendary effects in the game. The chance to double your attack speed is bonkers.

The Crudest Boots, another monk specific armor piece, fills the armor slot in the cube and the effect of Inna's Mantra and effectively doubles your damage.

The jewelry slot requires Ring of Royal Grandeur to get the 6 piece Inna's bonus. Without this ring, it is impossible for this build to get the 6 piece bonus; Shenlong's Spirit is too good to give up for Inna's Reach. It is possible, but not recommended, to put Unity in the cube and wear a Ring of Royal Grandeur but it's far from ideal with RoRG always rolling life on hit and attack speed (both which are good for the build, but crit chance and crit damage is better).

Gems

SlotGem
Helm Diamond (Cooldown)
Torso Emerald (Damage)
Pants Emerald (Damage)
Weapon Emerald (Crit Damage)
Jewelry Simplicty's Strength
Bane of the Trapped
Bane of the Stricken

The build's legendary gems are pretty standard with Bane of the Trapped and Bane of the Stricken. Simplicty's Strength makes an appearance because your main damage dealer is a spirit generator.

Gameplay

The goal of this build is to stack as many attack speed buffs as possible and hit mobs with Way of the Hundred Fists. You're basically going to hold down right click the entire time you are in the rift, Dashing Strike from place to place (or use the psuedo-teleport from Epiphany) and Cyclone Strike to pull mobs to you.

You should only run around to avoid ground-based damage or to reduce damage using the Endless Walk set (but the damage is much better).

TLDR gameplay is the following:

  1. Use Dashing Strike every 4 seconds to keep the 15% attack speed buff up
  2. Cast Breath of Heaven while attacking mobs to restore spirit and trigger the Shenlong's Spirit set bonus for a huge damage buff.
  3. Cast Inner Sanctuary on cooldown for increased damage and survivability; make sure you stand in it.
  4. Cast Epiphany pretty much on cooldown for increased surviability and spirit regeneration.
  5. Use Cyclone Strike to group mobs.
  6. Constantly attack with Way of the Hundred Fists (hold right click).
